Siamese cats have always been an important part of our family - ever since that memorable day, soon after our wedding in 1965, when we acquired our first tiny kitten.
This, however, is the story of one very special cat that came into our lives many years later. It all began with a phone call from Siamese Rescue to say that they had found an elderly Siamese cat living wild in appalling conditions in a derelict barn. Would we be interested? Apparently, the cat was completely traumatised and unlikely to settle in a new home. The prospect was daunting but it was a challenge that we were happy to accept.
It took weeks of love and patience but eventually Rufus, as we called him, began to respond. I often wondered how such a beautiful creature could have ended up in such dire circumstances. One day, however, an extraordinary thing happened. I was sitting at my computer with Rufus curled up on my lap. He began purring loudly and suddenly I felt an overwhelming urge to start typing. It was a strange sensation but it was as if Rufus was ready to reveal what had happened to him and all my questions would finally be answered.
I had no idea how the story would develop. It was both fascinating and intriguing to see the various events unfold; the subsequent challenges and the incredible adventures that followed.
